In a significant blow to Russian military logistics, Ukraine’s Navy has successfully sunk a ferry transporting fuel and weapons to Russian forces in Crimea.
The vessel, identified as the Conro Trader, was downed at the Kavkaz port in the Kerch Strait, one of Russia’s largest passenger ports, on Thursday.
According to Telegraph, the ferry was carrying 30 fuel tankers at the time of the attack. This incident highlights Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to disrupt Russian supply lines to Crimea, a region critical for Russia’s military operations.
Although the Kerch Bridge, connecting Russia to Crimea, has been a primary target for Ukraine, much of the cargo destined for Crimea still travels by ferry, making these vessels crucial to Russian logistics.
The attack has been confirmed by both Ukrainian and Russian authorities. The governor of Russia’s Krasnodar region reported that 17 crew members were rescued, while two remain missing.
A spokesperson for Ukraine’s Navy, Dmytro Pletenchu, emphasized the strategic importance of the ferry, stating, “This ferry is one of the most important chains of Russian military logistics for supplying the occupation forces, primarily with fuel and lubricants, but it also transported weapons. Therefore, this is a legitimate target.”
This event occurs amidst Ukraine’s ongoing offensive in western Russia’s Kursk region and a series of missile and drone attacks targeting strategic locations.
