It is official: Tobi Amusan will not be representing Nigeria at the 100m hurdles final at the 2024 Olympics as the country’s athletes remain without a medal so far.

From the start of the 2024 Olympics, Tobi Amusan has been the country’s major medal prospect, giving Nigerians hope of winning a medal after qualifying for the semi-final by winning her heat.

Recall that she made it to the semi-final with a time of 12.49s ahead of America’s Alaysha Johnson (12.61s) and Janeek Brown (12.84s).

But in the semi-final earlier today, the current world record holder in 100m hurdles had a very slow start, which worked against her. The Ogun State-born athlete had to put in extra effort to finish third in the race.

United States’ Grace Stark won the heat in 12.39s, Jamaica’s Devynne Charlton came second in 12.50s, while Tobi Amusan came third with 12.55s.

Initially, Nigerians thought she could qualify as one of the fastest losers but that wasn’t to be as she finished 9th fastest overall.

Nigerians react to Tobi Amusan’s exit from the 2024 Olympics:
