The PUNCH: According to the National Emergency Management Agency, the heavy rains and flooding that have wreaked havoc across the country in recent times have spread 28 states, claiming 175 lives and displacing 207, 902 others. Authorities have been urging residents in flood-prone areas to relocate as the rains persist, following the Nigerian Meteorological Agency’s warnings about the heavy rainfalls, urging preparedness for potential floods.

Vanguard: The National Assembly yesterday waded into the controversy generated by the Federal Government’s plan to peg the age limit for students to write the West Africa Senior Secondary School Certificate, WASSCE, examination at 18 years.

The Nation: The Federal High Court in Abuja yesterday permitted the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) to detain an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) A. A. Babangida and 19 others for 30 days. It is over their alleged involvement in banditry, kidnapping and terrorism. Also detained are Usman Idris, Abu Safiyanu, Alhassan Idris, Sahada Ishaka, Abubakar Bello, Yahaya Abdullahi, Haruna Salisu and Mohammed Muazu.

Daily Trust: Flood has so far killed a total of 179 persons in 15 states and displaced 208,655 others in 22 states within this year, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has said. The agency, which disclosed this in its 2024 Flood Updates released on Thursday also said 107,652 hectares of farmland and 80,049 houses were destroyed.
